Since the first lockdown I have been tutoring mathematics online. Having taught and tutored in a multitude of settings over 20 years (nearly half my working life as I am in my early 60's), I am impressed with how it has gone so far. Not only have I tutored online in a private capacity, I have delivered many lessons involving up to twenty students at a time for a college I worked at. My specialist subject is mathematics and I hold a PGCE to teach it up to 18.
I am currently offering online and face-to-face tutorials, each with varying requirements (please visit the tabs above).
For new customers:
I cannot guarantee success ... and never have done! What I do offer is a better chance of success ... and because my students might succeed at one level they might progress onto the next ... and so on . Eventually they may want to take up a career in one of the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and provide us, as a country, the very people that we so desperately need!
Homework is set and expected to be done (returned back to me by email) so that it may be incorporated into the next tutorial. For online tutorials I use a visualiser (basically a downward-facing webcam) so that the student can see what I am writing. Although not essential, it is recommended that the student also uses one. This would help me readily check their workings, layout, etc. Sometimes used in conjunction with a package (often free, although not for me!) that splits their viewing screen up into one or more windows, this (in my opinion) makes a more interesting way of delivering content and helps in creating a bond between us ... although, I stress, use of this package, by you, is optional.
A textbook may also need to be purchased (unless you are using one I already have). This will vary on the syllabus of the course (e.g. GCSE, IGCSE, A'level, etc.) My recommendations will be discussed during preliminary discussions with you and, occasionally, I buy the same book to match one that the student already uses. Please note that I do not teach A'Level Further Mathematics.
